We are in the midst of a social, political, and economic conflagration that soon will end. We must decide how we wish to see our nation reemerge from the ashes. Here are my thoughts. Our priorities must shift to one that favors the interests of children, families, and everyday Americans over the interests of individual wealth and corporations, using as our first tool the progressive income tax. Ensuring equal access to high quality housing, childcare, health care, and education should be among our most important initial considerations. We should rely upon our founding  documents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, while also ensuring that we interpret these documents to maximize civil liberties, civic participation, due process, and the rule of law for all Americans. We must also ensure that big money is kept out of politics including PACS, Super PACS, and Dark Money. Corporations can no longer count as people, all who live within our borders should be entitled to constitutional rights and liberties, and the rule of law must extend to the most powerful — including individuals of great wealth and political power like the president of the United States. Some changes may require new Constitutional amendments.  If one of our present political parties is unwilling or unable to embrace these goals, then we should welcome a new political party committed to lead this effort.
